it's openoffice though becky, rather than excel. I'm working the tutorials through for an openoffice class I'm teaching - excel is my achilles heel I'm afraid!

Edit: oh and I have open office at home - its basically the same except it looks different - none of the calculating tools or functions work differently if thats any help

I've never got my head around excel.........I can get the instructions to do the average, but the subtraction/multiplication/division ones seem wrong but I don't know why.

Hang on let me see...nope you're right A7 is empty - I think they mean subtract 5 from the total or =A6-A5

And for the mutliplication one doing =A7*A6 gives you 500

Its a naff tutorial I'm afraid - its far quicker in excel (or whatever) to click on the empty cell to make it active, then put in the = sign, then click on the first cell you want to use and then add the subtraction or whatever then click on the second cell and press enter...

If you want to total simply, click, =sum(drag the cells you want) and press enter

Me too - there is nothing in A7, I think they mean A6-A5.

phew..............I know I am awful at spreadsheets, but I didn't think I was that bad........the answers are wrong and the formulae just don't work!

right........found a different website where the tutorial seems to work. It's a bit more advanced than the other one, but I'll work it through and see where I go.
