Something in the loft . . . . . .

Hi all
We have been away and my daughter heard some scratching noises on her bedroom ceiling,we think its a mouse/mice - we had one 2 years running in the winter in the garage ceiling which was converted to a dining room. Its like the pitter of tiny feet - Im sure its a mouse, problem is loft is full of junk etc and want to try and get rid, have bought a thing you plug in to mains circuit - supposed to emit loud screech noise and also put something into cable runs around the house like a vibration to annoy them and send them off, have also ordered some sticky mouse pads already baited,to see if we can catch them.Has anyone had success with the plug ins? or is baiting the best way????

Buy a couple of mouse traps.

I'd suggest you call your local council.

We had a similar problem last year. We called the council and they put down some poison free of charge. The poison takes a few days to work and the vermin may die within your home causing a real stink!

We had tried the sonic repellent devices but the exterminator from the council said he'd seen these being used in lofts and they actually had rat/mouse droppings on top of them!

I also heard mothballs are a good repellent, I've chucked some around our loft and we haven't had any intruders for 4/5 months.

I actually caught a rat in the loft using a large rat trap using the following method. Bait the trap for a few days but don't set it. This allows the rats/mouse to get used to it. Then after 4/5 days set the trap.

    Good Luck!
  • Hi,

sorry to hear about your little visitors! We had the same problem with scratching/scurrying in the loft usually early morning - 4am/5am ish

i bought one of the plug in sonic thingies that works in 3 ways (sound wave, electric pulse through the house wiring and ionic)

when we plugged it into a socket in the upstairs hall we still had our attic visitors so i moved it up into the attic (i already had a power point up there for a tv amplifier) and so far so good...............been pest free for 3 months now

my advice is buy one (around a tenner on Ebay) and give it a try
