My internet died

A couple of months ago my internet just died! im with wanadoo broadband and when i double clicked on the internet explorer the "dial up connection" box appeared so i clicked connect, then the dial up connection box dissappeared leaving a blank window which said " opening page http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/......" the page would not load and neither would any other! sometimes it wouldnt even get past the dial up box, it would say incorrect password or username. I rang wanadoo and did some checks etc (flushed something or other?!) they then said i should contact a technician as my connection was fine and it could be a software problem. So i got someone out of the local paper, he was here for four hours but couldnt find anything wrong, he said my computer was fine and all my settings were fine (obviously did virus checks etc) re-installed internet explorer and windows but still couldnt get the internet to work, so four hours later he left empty handed (no fix no fee!) and with still having no internet. So i left the computer alone for about a month and a half and on saturday i bought an ipod shuffle so finally switched the pc back on to get the shuffle up and running, whilst doing this i thought id give the internet a go and what do you know? IT WAS WORKING AGAIN! frustrating! anyone know what might have happened?

possible you had something plugged into a phone socket with no microfilter.
It sounds as though it was set to dial a connection in the internet tools options but that should have been the first thing he checked.0 -

When you say the dial up connection box appeared do you mean the Speedtouch Connection box or the old style internet connection box you would have used prior to broadband? If its the old style box you may have picked up spyware or a rougue dialler which is trying to force your PC onto a premium rate number. Suggest you run some spyware and antivirus software and check your internet connection settings.
I had a similar problem with a trojan Vundo B and had to download a removal tool to get rid of it in safe mode.0
