To get you into the right mindset, I would suggest:
Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki (sp?)
Rules of wealth (can't remember the author)

I would also read the two follow on books in the Rich Dad series especially Rich Dad's guide to investing. Start with Rich Dad, Poor dad first though. Can't remember the name of the 2nd one in the series, but I am sure your bookseller will be able to make the link to the first book.

As for the nuts and bolts,
The Naked Trader is pretty good.

After these you should start researching on the internet to find people who invest the way you want to and see what they are reading.

Finally I am persevering with the Economist (newspaper) to give me an overall financial picture instead of the nitty-gritty buy this now type of thing. It is hard going for me and it took me a good few months to understand 75% of what they say, but it gives me an overall picture of the banking crisis, foreign exchange flows etc.

    HTH.
