I have no ethernet wireless card. I intend to use a Wireless USB adaptor.

Rookie, I have the same router and I'm on BTBroadband.
If the router is flashing steadily then it is not detecting a broadband connection.
That could be a problem between the router and your BT socket i.e. the cable or the filter. Try changing one or both of them.
Secondly of course it could be a fault with the router.
The IP address for the router is 192.168.1.1 but this will probably only show that you are not connected, but there is a trouble shooting guide there.
In case you don't know, open your browser and put that 192.168.1.1 in the address box. This doesn't attempt to go online it just goes to the page from the router.

Thanks for that. I have tried changing the cable and the filter to no avail.

As John said, flashing light indicates no synchronisation in this case.

So most likely it's either a problem with your connection/filter or the modem is broken.

I asked previously if you had an Ethernet port on your PC, this is a port for plugging in a network cable not a wireless card.
If you have one of these, connect a network cable between your PC and the Router. You can then go to the router address 192.168.1.1 and view the status. As John said, the troubleshooting guide might indicate the problem.

    Ok I will try that.
I have an ethernet card which I uninstalled and will endeavour to re-install. As you have probably gathered I am not very computer literate!!!
I will obtain a cable and view the status.

    Just a quickie.
If you are going to reinstall the network card you should remove it from the PC first, reinstall the software then put the card back in and Windows will detect new hardware. Most network and wireless cards require you to install software before installing the card. Have a look at the installation guide for the router and make sure you followed everything in the correct order.
