Abbey Zero CC

Could anyone advise how long it takes to have the Abbey Zero credit card up and running from applying? Going to Europe late July and it would be nice to take advantage of the three months' interest free period for as long as possible when we get back, so trying to apply as late as possible. However, don't want to leave it too late and then run the risk of it not having all gone through and been activated by the time we go!

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would apply sooner. Save you being stressed in the lead up to your hols.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:
  • 7-10 days for card to arrive, quickest way is apply in branch. If you are an existing customer it is possible you are pre-approved and guaranteed to get one.

Well... I suppose to be safe allow 3 weeks. Add another 10 days if you want to use the online system - because that requires registration and something sent in the post.

This is based on my own experience. I applied online, and it did seem to take a week or so for them to decide, then more than a week to get the card. During the second period they could at least confirm I would be getting the card and what the limit would be. Although I immediately registered for the online service, I had to leave the UK before the stuff arrived.

So I've been out fo the UK ever since, and have to phone them up to get balances etc. A right 'ole pain.

By the way, they do ask you "let them know" where and when you're travelling. I would do that to avoid getting the thing blocked.

    Have a nice trip!

Many thanks, all, for your advice. Will apply in the branch in a couple of weeks' time.

I would apply asap.I applied online on the date of issue four weeks ago. I've just phoned them, and they say the response has been much greater than anticipated, and it has taken much longer to process the applications.
My terms and conditions were sent out on 18th May, but delivery is expected to take 7 to 10 working days. They haven't turned up yet. I then have to return the documents and wait for my card.
Hope it turns up before my hols in June.
