Hi,

I currently subscribe to Virgin and have normal virgin dugital box. I want to upgrade my box to vplus with recording facility. I have seen some on ebay. Can I buy and start using it straight away with recording option? or I have to tell virgin and they have to send a signal to my box?

Also on my PC - I have Vista o/s - when I insert a DVD and open Windows Media Player to play it - it automatically opens up Power DVD and starts playing the CD. Any idea how I can I avoid this. I would like the DVD to be played on WMP?

Thanks
MS

you cant just buy a box, they require a registered card, and its the card that decides what channels and content you may access, so if you bought a box you would need to get a card off virgin, which they will charge you for their xl or xxl tv pack, i cant remember which but the most expensive one basically...

and seeing as they offer a free box with it, why waste money getting one off ebay?

and buying a card off ebay or something will not work, a friend tried it and he couldnt access any more content than before, so they must have some way of telling what to broadcast also.

    as for wmp

just search default programs in the start menu and follow the guide

then you just need to untick power dvd and tick wmp
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

I have a viewing card which I received with my old box. Can I use that?

I have changed the defualt DVD, VCD to Windows Media Player. Now when I insert the DVD in - it opens up WMP. After couple of seconds WMP shuts down and Power DVD opens up. Power DVD plays the DVD but without sound.

My sound drivers, speakers are ok because I have tried and played MP3 music on it. Any help?

    Thanks

Since the V+ box isn't the property of whoever is selling it, then it's not going to be a very wise purchase should Virgin Media come looking for it in the future..

On the power DVD options I would say use Power DVD over WMP anyday.

As for the sound issue, go into the options and see what its output is set to, I get a feeling its set to Digital out. Also check the volume of power DVD as it does have its own volume control.

If you did buy a box of ebay you would have to tell Virgin you want to upgrade and they will have to change the signal at there end otherwise you wont get the HD channels and they would no doubt want to know where you got your box from.

You can get them from Virgin for £49 now anyway.
