SatNav help

Hello,

I am about to buy my first SatNav.

Looking at MArtins email, I liked the look of the
MY GUIDE 3218 3.5" TFT Touch Screen SAT NAV with UK and Western Europe Mapping

I don't know anything about satnavs, but I wondered if anyone could tell me if I can add US maps to this unit? If so, is it easy?

Some of the reviews suggest that you put Tomtom v7 onto the unit. Do you buy this? Is it expensive?(I am assuming thatthis is software)

Sorry to be such a duffer!

thanks

Hi, Yes IIRC the tomtom software can be flashed onto that hardware, Which again i believe it is possible to add the US maps to.

The only way to put TT7 on this unit is by pirate software.

    edit

TT7 is now available for PDA's and as long as the Myguide is a windows based device it may be possible to do it legally

My thoughts...if you know nothing about Satnavs, get a TomTom.

I too knew nothing about Satnavs but wanted one. I looked into all the cheap ones, finding out about how to put Tomtom on them etc as everybody said the TT software was better, and got more confused. Husband just went out and bought me a TomTom for Xmas. It's simple and fantastic.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Based on that, I am now looking at the
    TomTom ONE v3 (UK Maps).

Again I just want to know if I canadd US maps to this model? The spec says it hs 512mb internal memory. Does it also have an SD slot? Will it run the US maps OK?

    Thanks

No, there is no SD slot and the 512 internal memory is not enough for large maps. You need an old One v2, One XL v1 or an x20, x30 or x40.

    Help!!

Which of the following should I buy:
    1. TomTom ONE XL V2 Sat Nav System (Western European Maps) for £139.99
    2. TomTom ONE IQ Routes Edition (UK And Ireland Mapping) for £149.99
    3. TomTom One V4 GB Sat Nav System (UK And Ireland Maps) for £109.99

Don't need European maps (although you never know!), like the idea of the larger screen, like the idea of the cheaper price of number 3. Prices are all from play.com cos I have a £50 voucher. Any advice or other suggestions greatly received.

One v4 UK cannot be upgraded to Europe. IQ routes has better lane guidance at major junctions.
  • Need some help with this new purchase, please. Leaving aside its many idiosyncrasies (such as not recognising any local postcodes, including mine, and refusing to acknowledge my street, or my friend's), it throws a fit (TERMINAL ERROR) if the SD card (supplied, and in the slot already when I opened the package) is not in the slot, and the Navigation doesn't respond at all. However, the instructions don't mention that all the information held in the unit is on that little SD card, and in fact indicate that it's just a nice option if I want to play MP3 files. It seems not! Is there something I need to do? I had hoped to have a little music playing while I wended my way through the countryside, but at the moment it seems it's one or the other - and I'd better not lose that card!

Not knowing that particular unit the general idea is that you put the music onto the same card. This is not reccomended for obvious reasons so probably copy the card onto a larger card and put the original away somewhere safe.
