Currys and Xbox 360

Hi people
Brought an xbox 360 around 2 and a half years ago from currys, at the time was sold the "whateverhappens" insurance at a cost of £85 the xbox 360 cost £349 we had the console on a 48 month credit term..we were sold the insurance and i quote "anything that goes wrong bring it in and we will swap it" anyway..
up until today the xbox 360 has been back to the shop 4-5 times and previously have had the pro console exchanged to the elite version to try and stop the red ring of death, more importantly on every occasion currys exchanged the console on the spot until today.. basicly the guy behind the counter phoned microsoft then passed the phone to me and i arranged for everything to be sent to my house to send the xbox 360 off.. i left with the console?
Now i have a problem with this and thats what have i paid for in the insurance policy? i mean they sent me away with the console its not like they have arranged the repair just gave me a free phone call? that i could have done in the comfort of my own home free online anyway? does this sound right? i asked why previously my console had been exchanged and was told microsoft what to see every console to understand what each problem is with there consoles! which i completely understand but couldnt currys just send it off after they gave me a new one?
my other concern is that the console which im still paying for and will be for 18 months hasnt really lived up to what i expected it 2.. ie the ammounts of faults with it ok its going to be repaired but for how long? could i request that even though the console gets fixed it has fit its purpose and ask for an exchange for another product?
cheers sorry for long post

well for starter, its what you get for buying that piece of s***
theres not much you can do, buy a 360 and it WILL go wrong.
getting a replacement or repair as you have been is your best bet, you could ask for a partial refund but it wont be much out of the use you have had so id keep with repairs etc
and finally, as for currys fobbing you off, theyre talking rubbish, they are responsible, its their warranty
what they are doing is realising that ms now offer a 3 year warranty to counter the red ring problem, so they thought why save us some dosh and send it to ms.... utter rubbish, go back, be firm and polite and request a replacement or repair, even if they have to call to book a collection.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
You've got WEH - Just point out the instant replacement part until you get your replacement - if you have to elevate it to the manager then so be it, but theres no harm (to the store) of giving you a new one, other than sheer laziness.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Whateverhappens does have a 21 day rule however the repair path is Microsoft.
I recommend taking the unit to a store for repair and asking them to send it off, they will issue you with a repair reciept, is the repair takes longer than 21 days of the date on the reciept you can put it a claim for product replacement vouchers under the 21 day rule.0 -
Whilst the contract is with Currys, there's been a couple of posts recently (I think concerning Xbox and Argos) where it is explained that Microsoft deal with customers quicker than they deal with retailers.
If the terms of the WEH policy state replacement WEH - does it mean on the spot replacement, you would think so for £85, and if so, point the manager to that paragraph.0 -

Instant replacement cover is only given on items under £130, you know of you have IR cover as the policy price ends in 99p e.g £17.990 -

They do however by sending it for repair through the store you are in much better stead with the 21 day guarantee, day one is when you drop it off and you will recieve documents to prove the repair started that day.0 -

For anyone that's worried because they've just bought or want to buy a 360, ignore this poster who has obviously had some sort of bad experience and venting it in a thread whereby the OP is not asking about reliability.
Microsoft had some manufacturing faults so pre 2008 if you bought a 360, chances are it would fail. However, then and even now, the warranty handling from Microsoft (i've found) is absolutely brilliant. I've had my 360 now for 4 years. In the first 2 years it had to be replaces twice but fine since that.
Buy a 360 and it may go wrong like any other electrical item! Fact is if something does go wrong it will be replaced (in the first year at least) and now they are a LOT more reliable![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Ignore 4743hudsonj , Sounds like their using bad experience of a 360 to scare people into not buying it, Buy an Xbox 360 and have hours of fun with it.0
