Why does a baby play up (scream) when you dress them or undress them? i am told this is part of temper tantrums at a year and a half is this is right? and why do they get this.

its frustration cos they cant do things for themsleves and also it disturbs whateva they are doing ow want to do instead!!
at one and a half getting dressed is so not a fun thing to do!0 -
I'd say it's quite normal, grit your teeth, get on with it and they'll grow out of it soon enough. Be consistent, don't give in and you'll be fine!0

ps deep breath and carry on!!

Hi my one did this as well but i worked my way around it by encouraging them to help dress themselves, a little bit at at time, maybe your child is ready for this. Worth a try if this doesn't work have you tried distracting them as you dress them ie a toy or try a reward if they are quiet you will give them a treat, worked for my kids. Give it a go what have u got to lose;)0

hiya
How old are your children? If they are 18months onwards then they are just flexing those opinions - give them a LIMITED choice, and then they will think they are in control. So things like 'do you want the blue T shirt or the green one?' If they don't pick one then mummy decides. Usually you can jolly them along, or just switch for a minute - if they don't want to put trousers on, put the socks on instead and then they'll probably have forgotten about the trousers, and you can try again.
hope that helps

Something I got from the baby whisperer was to never wade in before asking.
I always say 'shall we get you dressed?' and then move in.
Baby Whisperer always said you get permission, and inform them what is about to happen, and you will come up with less resistence.
It is such a shame she is no longer with us, I would love to have further guidance from her!0 -
I find that its more annoying when they try to escape as your changing their nappy. Children get frustrated easily, they are learning all the time.Barclaycard 3800

My 7 month old DD has just learnt to lift her bum up right at the moment I pull the front part of the nappy up! She finds it funny :rolleyes:0 -
I used to sing at mine when they were screaming - shut them up pronto!Signature removed for peace of mind0
