I am currently with British Gas and received an emai stating the tariffs charged. gas
Tier 1 (per kWh) 3.277
Tier 2 (per kWh) 2.431
Tier 1 applies to the first 1,143 kWh per quarter and Tier 2 applies to all consumption from 1,144 kWh up to 73,269 kWh (consumption over this amount would not be classed as domestic usage).
The unit prices for your electricity are as follows.
Tier 1 (per kWh) 15.821
Tier 2 (per kWh) 8.251
Tier 1 applies to the first 225 kWh per quarter and Tier 2 applies to all remaining consumption.

I've been looking on comparison sites for a few weeks now and cannot see much difference. Also worried about capping for 3 years my gas bill is already £350 per quarter. Call me dim but is anyone else struggling with this? can anyone point me in the right direction ? Thank you
Nice to save.

Utility Warehouse gas for "standard user" is 2.09p per kWh plus a £2.50 per month standing charge. Standard user Economy 7 electricity for their highest rate is 11.31p and 3p per kWh with a standing charge of £2.40 per month. There is a higher standing charge in another area, but the electricity is a lower cost per daytime unit. All the night rates are 3p per kWh. The highest General tariff is 9.14p per kWh with a monthly standing charge of £3.26. Again there are variations according to location. Don't forget the £1.76 per month club membership and £10 cashback at the end of the year for services taken.

These prices taken from the March 2006 price list. If you want exact figures for your area, PM me.

I declare an interest as I am a Distributor. Hope this helps.

If you're spending £350 per quarter you're probably better off with a different supplier at least for gas. The prices quoted would suit a lower user better - the standing charge is low but the unit price is quite high. You'd probably be better off with a higher standing charge and lower unit price.

    npower's Standard (expensive) tariff is:

Gas 3.968p per kWh (exc VAT) (you seem to have quoted exc VAT prices above) for first 1143 kwH (per quarter)
2.068p per kWh (inc VAT) for rest.

Notice how you're paying extra for the first 1143 units - they'll cost you approx £45 rather than £37. But you'll save over 10% on the remaining £300 worth. I reckon you'd save somewhere in the region of £100 per year.

This is npower's standard tariff. Their Sign Online tariff is considerably cheaper 3.165p for first 1143 units then 1.691p. And you can get £20 back by staying with them for a year. On this tariff, and provided prices remained the same, you'd be looking at saving around £350.

Correct as the blurb I've got says that most companies produce their bill without VAT being added at first. Utility Warehouse High User gas is £4.50 per month standing charge and 1.99 per kWh excluding VAT. General tariff for electricity is maximum 8.37p and £6 standing charge. Economy 7 maximum is 9.87p and 3p with a £7 standing charge excluding VAT again. Electricity areas vary standing charges and unit costs. The highest standing charge is on economy 7 in the Manweb area at £11 per month and with 8.59p and 3p per kWh.

Once again, don't forget the £1.76 including VAT for club membership, and, cash back after a year.
