Need IPod Touch help!

Hi everyone

this is not really a money saving question, but i've just bought an IPod Touch and have linked it up to the USB port on the computer and i can't see anything happening.

Is there any way of knowing if the USB port is doing what it's supposed to be doing?

thanks for any help!

It will take a few hours to come to life the first time (mine did), while it charges. If it's still dead after 3 hours of good charging, then I'd consider smoething might be up with it...

Have you got itunes? if not you need to download it. coz you need an account with them. does the itouch turn on without having been charged. Ours did. also what operating system do you have on your computer? really you need atleast xp. try another usb port. It is just like an ipod when you connect it first. itunes will open if its on the computer. hope this helps.

no you don't need an account to get rid of the connect to itunes screen. you just need itunes (and possibly an active internet connection) to get rid of the screen.

the only thing that you need an account for is to download music and ipod touch/iphone apps

Had a similar issue with the one I bought my wife - there was no feedback when the USB lead was plugged in.

However, I was using an extension USB cable, to mean I do not have to scrabble around the back of my PC to plug stuff in. When I plugged the Ipod touch USB directly into the back of the PC without using the extension cable, then the screen flicked into life.

(We had installed iTunes on XP, as suggested in the quick start card).

  • Well as i started this thread i may as well ask another question....

someone told me it's now okay to download You Tube videos to your computer and put them on your IPod. Anyone know what the real story on this is? On google there are sites for downloading You Tube vids but i don't know whether they are trustworthy

There are some great You Tube videos of events that i've been to and it woud be great to have them on my IPod as a memory, but don't know if this is allowed....

you need to download the MP4 version of the video (i know there is a site that lets you save the MP4 video to your computer, but i cant remember it). then its just a case of loading the video into itunes and syncing (copying) it to your ipod

edit - the site is http://keepvid.com/. make sure you grab the high quality mp4 video as you don't need to convert it
  • Thanks! Wow, this can actually be done.....
