Mbna scam?

We have a MBNA credit card. Last month we had a phone call from MBNA offering us another card which they said is only available to existing customers "platinum plus". Not surprised to be knocked back. Today we receive a letter from MBNA telling us that they were changing their interest rate to 2.29% per month however we could opt out but would no longer be able to use the card. I could reverse this in future but our eligibility would depend on a credit check. We personally believe that the customer service call offering us another card enabled them to run a credit check. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I can't see how the much misused word 'scam' applies to this in any way shape or form.

    MBNA has done nothing wrong.

Permission to search credit files is normally sought during the application process. As an existing customer, you would have already agreed to this and any subsequent credit checks that the bank deems necessary.

If MBNA contacts you again with an offer, you can always ask whether it will trigger a further credit check ;)
