Yep, if you haven't signed up for a new fixed term. 2 months from him/her, 1 month from you, to tie in with rental period.Just to check, does the above mean that, regardless of what is written into the tenancy agreement, having gone past the fixed term (12 months) we are only required to give 1 month's notice? Will read it when I get home tonight but thought I remembered that the text says 2 months for us or LL.0 -
Can tbs624 or anyone else link me an official source which says this (1 month notice for tenant by default after fixed term rental agreement ends)?
LL now telling me I have a 2 month notice period, based on the original assured shorthold tenancy agreement which was signed for June 1st 07-June 1st 08... nothing in the agreement refers to anything after 'the term', i.e. going periodic.
I think the LL is inexperienced and has had only one previous tenant so may believe what he's saying, but I'd like to give him something which illustrates that he's wrong without it being a confrontation.0 -
OK google found me this - http://www.landlordzone.co.uk/notice_to_quit.htm - which I guess is good enough!0

We gave notice and we're moving; unfortunately my wife is very determined to move asap due to the increased verbal abuse from the neighbours, etc - so we're moving in somewhere else before our notice period expires. I'll be paying two rents for a couple of weeks, which is bad and very un-MSE, but then LL scared me for a minute by implying I would be required to pay two rents for 6 weeks... then offered to compromise down anyway due to the hassle.
Still, end result is, two-rents-for-2weeks-costs, moving costs, letting agency up-front costs, more expensive flat costs, gardener costs for old flat (as no way am I restoring its condition myself with the neighbours and dog around)... so, bleeding money for a bit but then the problem will have gone away. Thanks for the advice from people to just get moving.0 -

You have had a rough time OP reading on this thread. The LL was a waste of space and so were the council. Don't think it will always be like this though, because there are good lettings out there. Best of luck to you.
