PC Security

Hi.

I use windows xp. At the moment I use Avira for anti-viruse but I don't know what to use for spyware:confused:

Could you please recommend a good spyware that I could use. I had a look at the 'sticky' about security but I couldn't see any links or addresses for spybot or some of the others that people use:o

So if you recommend something could you please also provide the address?:T

I suppose I should check if some spyware has already been implanted on my pc. How do I do this please?

Thx.
:j I hope my comment helps :T

The lastest version of Avira has antispyware built in. I would also use Malwarebytes and Superantispyware for on demand scans every week or so.
    Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html
    Both of them are free.
  • Anti-virus - Avira AntiVir
    Anti-malware - Malwarebytes
    Anti-spyware - SUPERAntiSpyware

Aside from running the programs that have already been posted ~

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

I think, as I removed Zonealarm and down loaded Avira at the same time I should be OK. :D

Thank you all for your replies:T

I am trying to install Kaspersky (the free 12 month version from Barclays Bank, which you can install on up to 3 PC's) on my laptop (vista) and desktop (XP) but in the frist stages of install i get a pop up which says i have timed out. This happens whether i try and save to the desktop as instructed or run the install.

I used to have Avast but have removed this using the removal tool from the Avast website and rebooted several times.

Can anyone help as i don't have any anti virus on either PC's at present which isn't ideal.

    Many thanks

Red ~ put the kaspersky install ready on the desktop
Boot into SAFE MODE (Keep pressing F8 at bootup) and try from there

I use ThreatFire and SpywareBlaster. I've always preferred preventative measures.
