Why we HATE the the so called "low cost" airlines!!!!

I try to book my flights 2-4mths in advance, very rarely do I have to change them, when I do I usually don't bother because the "new" flight is more often then not, 30-40% dearer than the old one.

Secondly, if you decide to cancel and claim back the taxes they impose a punitive £20 service charge to do so, which is usally not far off the original amount you paid in the first place...!!! Yet, it can all be done electronically ( ie for "free") on their site, just the same as you do to book their flight to start with!!!

See typical BULLSH*T conditions attached below from one of them.....

4.2 TAXES, FEES AND CHARGES
Applicable taxes, fees and charges imposed by government or other authority, or by the operator of an airport, shall be payable by you. At the time you purchase your Ticket, you will be advised of taxes, fees and charges not included in the fare, most of which will normally be shown separately on the Ticket. The taxes, fees and charges imposed on air travel are constantly changing and can be imposed after the date of Ticket issuance. If there is an increase in a tax, fee or charge shown on the Ticket, you will be obliged to pay it. Likewise, if a new tax, fee or charge is imposed even after Ticket issuance, you will be obliged to pay it. Similarly, in the event any taxes, fees or charges which you have paid to us at the time of Ticket issuance are abolished or reduced such that they no longer apply to you, or a lesser amount is due, you will be entitled to claim a refund. If you do not use your Ticket, you will be entitled to claim a refund of any governmental taxes, less a service charge of £20 per passenger. Please note that credit card and debit card fees are non-refundable.

IMHO there needs to be legislation so that airlines cannot pocket taxes if the passenger does not fly, the flight is cancelled, or they collect more taxes than there are seats on the plane.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Who are 'we' (you only refer to yourself in the singular in your text), and how does your illustration differ from most full service airlines?
    Gone ... or have I?

Given the prohibitively high price of air travel before budget operators existed, £20 here or there is completely irrelevant. Even more so when you consider it only applies to the minority of passengers who cancel their flight.

I don't hate the budget airlines. I know their service is rubbish and if anything goes wrong it is going to be an expensive trip to get home.

But I take that risk often because their prices are low. Complaining about things you are aware of before you book/fly is silly.

In the last few years I've been to: Italy, Greece & various Greek islands; France; Portugal; Poland; Ireland; Martinique, and, next week, Croatia. I pay far less for my son to get to and from uni than I would if he used almost any other means of transport, and he's door to door in less than an hour and a half, rather than it taking two days. My suitcase got damaged the last time I flew back, and it got replaced (almost!) without fuss.

In the first 30 years of my life I'd visited the US (courtesy of Freddie Laker) and Ibiza. That was it, by plane - and both those journeys were huge, huge financial investments, the like of which us working class kids weren't really 'supposed' to make.

    I don't hate them. I love them.

  • im not keen on the ryan air charges as have 5 kids and ones an infant so would be forced to pay airport check in which is quite expensive although i could claim it back for me and infant im told:confused:
however flew on easyjet to pahos last year and just booked my flights to lanzerote for xmas at a total cost of £400 for myself, 4 children and infant which inludes 2 bags so i cant really grumble at that price as not as cheap anywhere else:rolleyes:

Surely these days it pay to check the prices on ALL airlines going from the airport you want to the airpor you want & ake the best deal. I used ryanair to malta last year because nobody else could get close to £76 for 2 returns including bags. this year i am using thomson to crete because i can fly from stanstead & not have to travel to gatwick Saves me about £60. these "budget" airlines have brought air tavel to the general public & have kept the prices genuine, not allowing the cartel kings (BA) to charge what they can get away with. If you dont like them dot use them.

The thought that all an airline's IT costs it nothing is a bit naive.
