I had a HP pavilion XP. I had AVG 8.5 and windows defender on and never had any bother. On Saturday put Superantispyware and spyware blaster on from Cnet. I checked emails and there was one from a spanish sounding name. The heading was drieviris or something like. I had clicked on it. Later I exchanged my payg dongle to OH dongle as mine had almost run out. He installed his then messed about with disk cleanup. Next thing kaput no internet. It keeps going to BIOS when it asks you to choose windows start up it wont reboot. I don't have any disks and last time cost me £89 at PC world. Does anyone know of any sites that help you reboot the system as I may have messed all the config up . I have done F1 setup thenF10 configure . I have gone to tesco and bought a net book for now but want me old xp desktop back to how it was. Any help much appreciated. I have no clue about booting etc I just like to turn it on and click on connect to internet lmao

With a basic assumption that the pc installation is still in tact, you will need a bootable CD or floppy of xp.
If your netbook has a cdrom drive and has xp - then you could create a rescue disk with that.
If your pc has a cdrom then you can boot from that cdrom and go into rescue mode - Once in command prompt - use the command fixmbr to fix your pc boot.
Does your netbook come with Xp restore cd - you could use that perhaps. Or try to borrow a disk from a friend (only to boot from not install).
Added :- Sorry forget the netbook restore cd - thats going to be a customised install cd - if you can get hold of any xp cd from a friend that will do the trick.0 -
thanks for the info i tried putting the xp discs in that came with acer aspire but it says installation incomplete so gather thats done nowt. noone has an xp they are all on vista home premium so finding it hard toget hold of one.even tried freecycle no joy and a couple of pc shops. can you not download from a website though knowing my luck ill get a trojan or two for free.do you think a virus caused this ?It will not boot without disk then? says something about partition0

Yep that might have totally wrecked your installation now! If you've installed the acer recovery disk over the top of the HP, and it didn't complete, there'll be bits of both flying about in there! The only way forward now is probably to do a clean install.
With HP's, I think they have a recovery partition, but on our Compaq (Same as HP) we had to make recovery discs ourselves, from that partition.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
you could put ubuntu on instead.
You can download it for free quite legally and install it on a machine that has had XP running. It wont be windows or XP but it is user friendly and very good .0
