Turkey spending money

I am going to Turkey in June with my daughter and since I've never been before thought I'd see if anyone on here could offer some advice.
My daughter is 14 and we are going for a week,self-catering, any ideas how much spending money to take?
Also I have 80 Euros, any idea if I should change them to Turkish lira over here or in Turkey?
Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas.

Hi, were going back to Turkey next sunday, can't wait! we went 2 adults 1 child SC and took £500 spending money, this was to include our meals and drinks. I would take over pounds and change into lira when you are there, you get more for your money with the pound. If you go to markets and shops its normally 5 t shirts for £10, lira is mainly used for meals and little shops. Other than that its quite cheap to eat out, they love you to haggle so don't be afraid!
Hope you have a nice timeBaby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j0 -

Yeah I had wondered about taking pounds over with me to spend there, just wasn't sure.
Hope you have a great time as well MummyOf10 -
If you've already got the €€, it's not worth changing them back to ££ here (you'll lose a bomb).0

Also remember that if you are taking sterling it will have to be english banknotes. You will also need £10 per passenger for your visa at the airport when you arrive.
have a great time (i love turkey!!)

Yeah I know, our Scottish money is no good anywhere but Scotland :mad:0 -
expect prises to be up this year, with a lot of people avoiding eurozone the turks will have upped their prices.
we went last year and found it not as cheap as everyone makes out.
but as usual watch where your eating , a street back from the biz and you'll find cheaper places.
themed pubs are also dearer i.e Irish, rangers, celtic, liverpool bars etc...
and take your euros they accept them too.
enjoy, we still had a fabulous time0 -
Just one more thing that I have remembered too - not sure about the rest of Turkish airports but Bodrum is the most expensive airport in the universe in my opinion!! If the rest of them are the same, you might want to think about taking a sandwich or something with you when you go for your return flight to the UK instead of paying the over-inflated prices at the cafe.

Yeah airports cost a fortune, Dalaman was overpriced, £1.40 for a wee packet of m&m's, came to £15 for couple bottles of water and crisps. Needless to say i have learned the hard way lol
Also be careful when going to markets, they have a habit of putting jewelery on you, this makes you feel like you have to buy it, don't be shy though and just say no thanks, i'm too nice and ended up with a green ankle for the rest of the holiday! :rotfl:
5 more sleeps and we'll be away, can't wait!Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j0
