Getting a new landline

I'm trying to get Broadband but do not have a landline. I wanted to go for the post office offer as I will be only using the phone for internet purposes, however, they can only transfer lines from BT - they cannot set them up. What is the cheapest option for me? Do I need to take a BT line then transfer it to the Post Office (or whoever)? Can I do this, or is there a minimum contract length with BT? Do I have any hope of getting this done in time to take advantage of the PO and Madasafish offers that both expire at the end of the month?
Cheers

If you want broadband only without a line then your only choice is Telewest or NTL.
If neither are in your area then you will need a BT landline. If BT has never installed at your house then you are looking at £75 installation fee and a minimum 12month contract. If BT has been previously installed at your house (whether used by your or previous tenents) then it is free re-connection subject to a minimum term of 3months.
During the minimum term, then you can use other providers for your broadband and calls (via CPS) but I don't think you can transfer your linerental to anyone else within the minimum term.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
