Cat Food

till recently i always fed my cats dry cat food, however a recent trip to the vets ended that when we found out one of my cats had a problem with her jaw which ment i had to switch her compleatly to wet food.
In the begining i used to lock the other cat out while i fed the problem cat but that became increasingly more difficult and the the other cat would sulk, so in the end i decided that wet food wouldn't really do either of them any harm so i stopped doing it.
I still leave a bowl of dry food out as a suppliment so there is always something available should either of my cat be hungry and there is no wet food available. (sick cat can eat dry, it's just painful)
However the longer go's on the more im having to feed them, the sick cat is feeling better and is eating a more normal amount (though still less than most cats) and greedy cat is wolfing down the food pretty much as fast as i can feed it.
Now the pair of them seem to spend most of thier day following me around yowling for food, like a pair of half starved idiots and the now both refuse point blank to eat the dry food it just sit's there for days, greedy cat has even taken to going and "catching her lunch" rather than eat the dry much to the dismay of the family, my poor 7 year old found a half eaten rat on his bed this morning, he was not impressed.
I;ve bought a few different brands and alot of them both cats turned thier noses up at it. They will eat felix and other "named brands" but i know alot of these foods are really no better than "pet junk food" at least it's easy to get good quality dry cat food, most tins just seems to be junk.
I figure if we are going to bite the bullet here and switch compleatly, feeding them the full reccomended amount of wet it really should be a decent quality one.
So i was wondering can anyone recommend a Good wet food that is balanced and healthy and hopefully no too harsh on the pockets?? and that my fussy cats might actually eat.

can't advise on posh wet food as my kitten will curently only eat felix. However she also enjoys Purina's Pro Plan dry food (which is quite a good one) soaked in water to soften it, might be worth trying this option as it might be more tempting and dry food is so much cheaper.
if you are struggling to choose you could try writing to manufacturers (eg purina) and explaining the problem, I have sometimes received samples or vouchers this way (which takes some of the expense out of trying new brands).
Also if you go somewhere like pets at home they often have individual pouches for sale, so you could choose a variety of brands without being stuck with loads they wont eat.0 -
Butchers Classic is good & cheap. I think it's less than £3 for 6 tins. It is a great food & contains no soya or cereals. My cat eats it and she is quite fussy. It comes in meat flavours or fish flavours. In the supermarkets I use, it can usually be found close to the bottom shelf near the stores own brand and kite kat.0

natures:menu is one of the best but about £5.47 a box. They shouldn't need dry down aswell as wet at all. Classic mine wouldn't eat but it's still only 4% meat tho as devil says no soya or anything so one of the better low meat content ones. HiLife is £1 for 4 cans in Wilko's but not 400g cans & i'm not sure if it still is that price.0

Like with Devil's cat, mine loves Classic cat food made by Butchers.
He can sometimes be quite selective about canned food, occsionally going off off some of the other brands, but he does always gobble down the Classic food.
The only thing is they come in 6 or 12 pack so you can't just buy 1 or 2 cans to try.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
With wet unfortunately it will be more expensive. On dry you can get away with about a full bowlful for the day. Pouches you are talking 3-4 a day.
There are just so many and I guess the only way is trial and error and any leftovers give to the Cats Protection League. I went through so many with my two and what they may like could be hated by yours. I believe the better meat content ones are;
Check out the Tesco Luxury range, it's min 50% meat or fish and it's like 12 for £4.
As someone said above, Natures Menu (Pets at home stock it)
Tesco Finest or Just Nature. On the subject of Tesco, try lamb mince raw and see how they like that.
Applaws
Check out zooplus as they have a lot of German stuff that is quite high in meat content, they list the ingredients there.

Just got back from pets at home.
The best wet food I can see is the Purely range which is comparable in price to felix and whiskas pouches (2.75/kg) comes in individual cans and several flavours and is 50% meat / fish, dolphin friendly and no artaficial additives...
eg http://www.petsathome.com/find/category-is-1+cat/category-is-1f+food/category-is-1f02+wet+food/product-is-20598/pgs-is-72
Never tried it but may well when kitten gets older..
Hope this helps0 -

I looked at this site & decided that I will go 2 a cheap butchers & get things like heart, tongue, rabbit - dice & chop & bag them in small bags, free up a shelf in my freezer & give it to moglets as treats (mine have all their teeth & I dry feed 99% of time)0 -
My 13 year old cat will only eat Applaws. Specifically the chicken and pumpkin, and tuna and prawn. You should be able to get it from pet shops, but prob not the supermarket. It's meant to be all natural, so no nasty bits! It costs around 70p for a small can (58g I think)0

Have you looked at Asda's Tiger Select? It is about 70% meat. I don;t how good it is, but my cat absolutely loves it!!!! I think his favourite is sardines & mackerel, and also tuna!
I do have a few tins of Applaws and Nature's Best (90% meat).Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
