Don't know if you'll have better results on your searches with 'Magnetron'?

Surely it would be cheaper to buy a new microwave?

It would certainly be safer. Any shoddy workmanship and microwave leakage could be cooking your eyeballs along with your dinner.

It would be pretty difficult to do such a shoddy job such as to create dangerous microwave leakage. However, the high power capacitor in a microwave can give you a near lethal shock even after being switched off for hours. Before you start tinkering google "discharge microwave capacitor".

Why is it "burnt". Do you mean burnt out, have you been cooking metal in it? If it is truly knackered, it's likely the whole unit needs replacing. How hold is it? Are the door seals working properly? Etc...

I agree with kiwkbreaks, just get a new microwave, simplier, probably cheaper, and much safer. They are not for messing around with unless you know what you are doing and can ensure the components and case are fully sealed.
