fuel additive advise
hi im thinking of using redex or millers diesel additive in my P reg rover 200 diesel, its just been serviced recently and is up for MOT in a few weeks. Going to drive it on a long journey on the motorways and I've heard redex can help with emissions? It's a slight problem area for the car and want to make sure it gets through the MOT ok.
Can I get some advise on whether its good to use these products, and how I should use them? I've heard put 1 shot per gallon of diesel when fuelling up?
cheers.

To give your car the best chance of passing an MOT,take it a good hard, hi revving run before hand and make sure its red hot when you present it for test.also make sure the air and fuel filters are new.
Please note......make sure the cam belt has been replaced on the correct interval before presenting it for MOT.the tester may ask you to prove that its been done and could refuse to test it.Sorry:money:

The one I use that by all accounts gives similar results to Forte's and is available in Halfords is Millers Diesel Sport 4.
By the third tank full I measure a 5% to 7% fuel saving when all other conditions (weather, driving route etc.) are the same. Used it on my car since 5,000 miles, you might see a greater change over time on your older car as it gets cleaned out and you will probably see a reduction in smoke over time.
You may or may not notice a small improvement in performance.
Two full measures treats 60L of fuel which is probably about right on your car.0 -
Or you can buy 2-stroke oil and use that.0

around mot time i put redex in or the posh diesel from the pump0

i would imagine it has the super reliable peugeot engine in it, good for atleast 300k0 -
Can you seriously get an extra 70 miles per tank full?. We have a 3 series BMW and we get around 380 miles per tank full. Would be very interested in trying this if it worked.0

The best fuel treatment that i have come across and use quite alot is Forte diesel treatment.its not for general sale but garages stock it for use in industry standard servicing.you may get the odd garage that will just sell you some tho

Different garages have different additives in and when they mix they can really 'bung' up the fuel filter (its like a black slime that hadrens) and if not removed, can b*gger up the fuel pump too.
On vehicles that do alot of mileage etc., ie work vans and taxi's, we tend to change fuel filter each service and use the fuel treatment.Genie
