Hi Guys and Gals,
I'm after the benefit of your experience.
Having been looking for car insurance quotes I was wondering aside from the excess and type of cover you choose are there any ways to bring the quotes down, aside from the obvious?
When passed I will be 21 and due to my homelife I will be looking to insure something family sized, no corsa's punto's etc.. I have no interest in them, I'm no boy racer, And also have 2 dogs to shift around. I'm not looking for anything crazy, Something mondingo sized, also like the newer shaped lagunas. I have been getting quotes of around £1350, which in fairness is better than i expected.
Any Ideas?

Yeh that isn't too bad a quote really for first year male under 25 from some I've heard recently. If you have someone whos got many years drivers experience and over 25 and preferably female sometimes adding them as a named driver can bring it down. Adding my mum as a named driver to my policy brings it down 80 quid for some bizzare reason. That's 380->300 so a decent percentage.0

If you have a provisional licence avoid Quinn.
If you have a wife / partner try adding them as a spouse / common law partner (If this is applicable) as a lot of Insurers give you a discount if you add your female partner0 -
My wife is 24 and adding as a named driver pushed the quote up lol
Quinn suprisingly have been coming back cheapest on provisional, but dearer on a full.War does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
Car insurance is such a pain in the backside, you could spend a month on it. But a small tip is once you have narrowed it down input the information on the relevant insurers website via a cshback site as Quidco. That should save you in the region of £70.
Your quote (being a bloke) sounds not bad if you change sex you will get is bit cheaper...:rotfl:0 -
Hmmmmm, I wonder........

I also find the pass plus system a con in terms of saving on price especiialy factoring in the cost of taking it versus the savings, It works out cheaper without lolWar does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
Add people like parents to policy as it sometimes reduces it:)0

There is nothing surprising with their quote for you with a provisional licence being cheaper, its one of their catches to make get customers. If you take cover out with them as soon as you ring and advise them you have passed your test they will ask you for a big additional premium (They are one of the only companies to operate this way currenty)0 -
If i were to add a family member, my dad for instance as a named driver, not a main obviously, And i were to have an accident which was my fault, Would the fact that I claimed with him on my policy affect his no claims discount? Wouldn't want to ruin his good history?
Sorry if that sounds stupid :rotfl:War does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0 -
He'll have the no claims on his own policy which should not be affectedNickWarren wrote: »If i were to add a family member, my dad for instance as a named driver, not a main obviously, And i were to have an accident which was my fault, Would the fact that I claimed with him on my policy affect his no claims discount?
