What are the chances of winning...

I enter loads of competitions and as I do there is always that saying in the back of my mind that I have as much chance as anyone else!!

But on the other hand I know that I won't win due to the odds!! 1 in a billion.....probably:rolleyes: I might be wrong but it's just so hard especially with questions being so easy that everyone knows the answer to them.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has won competitions....and how long it took!

keep positive i enter loads depending on whats about.
i started in june 08 i had small wins like dvds make up ect the biggie came in august a 42" viera tv
in november i had 2 nikon cameras and december a psp along with bigsnap vouchers.
this year in march i won a 50" samsung tv since then have had 3 mobile phjones and so many little bits.
i keep a list of what i have won this year and always thank the op the little wins all add up
if you look on the pictures of what people win perhaps that might help you to get rid of the back of the mind feeling..
as they say youve got to be in it to win it

    good luck hope this helps
  • I started comping January 2008 and thought much the same as you. I averaged about 2 wins a month ( usually fairly small wins) and then got the phone call that everyone wants in September - I had won £4000 with ITV Real Deal. This year I'm doing well with lots of smallish wins (all in my sig) The more you enter the more chance of winning, but I try to only enter for prizes as I can find a home for.
    Good Luck :)

I think that if you enter ones for smaller prizes or more specialised prizes, you have a better chance of winning. If you look at how many people have pressed "thanks", it gives you an idea of the competitions popularity, so try and enter a few for something that you could use, but not many other people would, so for example tickets to a country fair near you or six balls of crochet wool or the printing of wedding invitations. If you only enter the biggies, you could soon get despondent, but it keeps you going if you sometimes get a small prize. Obviously, enter the biggies too, its just that there is less chance of winning these. I'm still waiting for a really big one, but I did win a washing machine and lots of smaller prizes and I have been comping for about 8 months.

I say keep going, I have been comping since middle of feb 2009 so only 3 months and I have won over £2k of stuff. Wins include a £135 necklace from Marie Claire comp, £500 Bafta bag and £100 Sister Act Tix in West End to name a few. I enter around 100 - 150 comps a day. Its all about luck, and wins seem to come all at once so i say keep going, Everyone have losing periods, however when you get a winning streak its the best!!

Iv only been doing comps from the start of May and I feel iv done wll so far. Yes iv not had a big win but the small wins iv had so far keep me going.

When I frist started I went to the last page and spent four days working my way to page one. So now I do them every day but the way I do it is the comps that where posted yesterday I do today and any thats put on today I enter 2maro (If you all can understand that lol )

Iv so far not worked out a good way of doing the monthly and weekly comps. But just keep at them wins will come in at some point. Even if its small its something you have without having to pay for it.

Unfortunately, I was not as lucky as most of the lot that wrote above. Have been comping since OCT 2008 and so far - no big win for me. Won a few small prizes, but to be honest do not tend to enter too many comps for the small stuff due to lack of time.
I keep my fingers crossed - seeing many MSEs actually win keeps me going.

Well i don't know about 1 in a billion :D , but the odds are always going to be high when it comes to comping, and it all depends on number of entries.

I've been lucky enough to win a few comps since actually joining this site last year, i won some xbox games, some vouchers and a t-shirt, not really big wins, and to be fair we're not the only ones who will be entering the comps that get posted on this site, there will be thousands of other entrants, who know nothing of this site, or who could just be guests.

Obviously the larger family you've got the more chances you stand of winning competitions, not because your odds are increased, but because you'll have the ability to enter certain competitions that others won't be entering(such as gender specific prizes like womens perfume)

Gets a bit depressing sometimes so know how you feel.

Ive been entering the comps since Jan this year and so far have won a big fat -nothing.

Not even in the Cadburys, Galaxy, Cosmo, Mars etc - Nada

Ive come to the conclusion that my name is super unlucky :rotfl:.

BUT I think its nice helping others to win things even if its just one answer to a question.

I know my day will come and my theory is that when I do finally win it will be a great one. :T

I think it took me about a month to win a prize and that was on a comp where everyone that put in their email address got free tickets to a preview of a show.

Even now, I have dry spells. I'll win a few prizes then win nothing for a month. It seems to be largely alternate months but then, I won something in February and then the next prize was the start of May but I've won 4 in a week which has never happened to me before.

Don't forget that unless you are entering all comps that are about to end, the closing date of a lot of comps are weeks or even months away!

It's definitely not 1 in a billion as a billion people don't enter. It might be in the hundreds or thousands but that's actually not bad odds. It's better odds than the lottery.

I have won a decent prize as per my sig but not a huge huge prize yet, and I've been comping just under a year. Stick at it and you will win something. Don't expect it to make your fortune but it can be nice to win prizes to make things work a little better - I won £100 of ELC vouchers in January that sorted DS's birthday present, some fancy dress costumes for both of them and part funded DD's present too!
