Download SUPERANTISPYWARE (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/
    UPDATE and PERFORM COMPLETE SCAN
(Then goto console and LOGS and post the log it created then untick it from STARTING UP WITH WINDOWS)

    Looks like your clean :)

Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

CCLEANER will clean all the cr*p up thats not needed

  • Right i have done that so hopefully it's fixed. Thank you very much. Now before i ring virgin to play hell with them and uninstall virgin pc guard completely, please could you advise me which anti virus you would recommend. We have 3 pc's altogether- 2 run on vista and the other is xp. On the other vista we have avast, is that ok?, that's used by my youngest son who is forever downloading free games. The xp is used by teenage daughter, i believe she has free avg installed. Or i could down load hsbc anti virus for free as a customer. If i am better off paying for something thats fine.
  • hsbc's allow customer to down load macafee for free

Don't use McAfee, even for free. Get rid of AVG, use Avira or Avast.
If you don't mind paying, use Kaspersky, (but it's also free to Barclays online bankers).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Mcafee is absolutely awful. I wouldnt EVER recommend it

    Personally I use Avira ~
Download AVIRA (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

Id also suggest alternating weekly scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware
Never use combofix unless asked to (Or you do so at your own risk)

Either switch on windows firewall or use a 3rd party one. I use PCTOOLS firewall personally
Download PC TOOLS FIREWALL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')
UNTICK the option of installing 'THREATFIRE' too (another antivirus program)
    http://www.download.com/PC-Tools-Firewall-Plus-Free-Edition/3000-10435_4-10625321.html

If you wish to pay then Kasperky Suite is the one to go for but id still recommend using Malwarebytes alongside it

Following on from my problems earlier. I have just done a full scan with my Avast. It found 1 infected file - C:\System VolumeInfomation\_restore(97352DB0-335C.4904.AC7 Malware:Win32:Pavu(Drp). This was successfully removed to chest.

Can anyone please advise if I need to do anything further to protect my computer. Thank you.
