Stuck garage door

I've got an up and over garage door (i.e as it lifts the top goes in and the bottom goes out).
It's always been a bit stiff, when closing it I always need to kick the bottom a bit to get it closed.
Did the usual today but kicked too hard at one side and it kind of jumped and is now jammed.
Any ideas? I can't get into the garage any other way.
I don't want to do anything that will !!!! it up leaving it un-secure.

Has it got a spring along the top of the door and wires down the sides? If yes the wire may have snapped on one side or popped out of the slot.
A simple cure for a stiff garage door is oiling/greasing the spring, works wonders. In wood we trust.0 -
I use wd40 on mine, after wiping off all the cobwebs, leaves etc that seem to get stuck in the springs etc0

As BB said, one (or both) of those 2 problems has almost definitely happened. You could try grasping the bottom of the door and 'wiggling it' from side to side in the hope that if it's popped out of it's runners, it could pop back in. This may require a bit of effort though.
If you can get it open a bit, you can crawl under and take a look from behind the door which will give you a better idea.
Unfortunately if this is the only way in then you might have to be prepared to use brute force. Given that you need to have it secured rather rapidly afterwards, it might be an idea to get a handyman in to do it. If he can't fix it straight away then he should at least make sure it's secured until it can be fixed.0 -
my garage door has runners inside a track on either side. it has come off the track a few times in the last 5 yrs.
a large screwdriver/bar will prise the small runner wheels back into the tracks.
gently. dont bend the track.Get some gorm.0 -

Look along the spring and you'll see some holes at one end insert the screwdriver and pull down or up whichever takes the tension off, then you should have enough slack to try and place the wires back in the slot.
If the wire is snapped you'll need to follow the same procedure but unhook the other wire and put the spanner on the end and slowly turn it until the tension is out of the spring. You'll then replace the snapped wire and retension the spring, same procedure but in reverse obviously. In wood we trust.0
