Can anyone recommend a cheap place for getting rucksacks/backpacks for travelling?
I could also do with some advice about suitable sizes. I need it to go travelling in Latin America for about 6-8 weeks in the summer.
Thanks.

Don't go too cheap on the travelpacks. Remember these things need to be tough and will have to last you quite a bit of time.
In the past I used the Karrimor range of travel packs, they were great as the whole thing could zip up and be locked and came with a smaller day pack.
They were going for about £120 when I bought my 70lt one."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
https://www.packmate.co.uk got mine off ebay great for keeping thing water tight
Find the bag you want then use one of the comparison site like https://www.pricerunner.com or Kelkoo <sp> These are a good place to start the hunt https://www.bags123.comIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Do you live near an outlet village like MacArthur Glen?0

I bought a smallish (20l) Karrimor rucksack at the weekend dirt cheap in my local Sports Word / Sports Soccer (whatever they're called these days!)
A 30l+ was about £16 I think. Certainly worth a look through to price them up against the likes of Millers, etc.0 -
Try https://www.ArmynNavy.com for military surplus. Low prices plus free delivery.

I would advise against buying straight off the internet as you need to feel how the bag feels when on your back - remember you need to be comfy as your going to get very friendly with that bag.
Once you have decided on your prefered make/model then do some research on the net as to how cheap you can get it.0 -
Yeh go and test one out, i got mine from blacks in sheffield in the xmas sale 2 years ago and its still going strong. You pay for what you get and i had to get a 75L one as i am away for a year and in the sale it was about 60 pounds.
If you speak to the people in the shop they will advise you on size and how to fit them.0 -
Find the type you want in the stores and then try e-bay for quality gear at knock down prices, but be sure to look at the sellers feedback and membership record.0

I have been looking into this recently as I go travelling in Aug, and decided on a 75l Karrimor backpack. I know that the Karrimor "Global" backpack's are quite a popular choice. They also do women's fit too which are a bit more comfy..
If you are a member of the YHA, you get 10% off any products you buy in Blacks and Milletts - but I would suggest trying a backpack on in store, to see which model suits you best, but then buy it online!! The prices range dramatically - and you can use the money you saved on your backpack to go towards your trip!!
Let us know what you get.
