Whats the best way to close a credit card account completely?
I will soon have the funds to pay off and close all my credit card accounts and would appreciate advice on how to do this in the quickest and easiest way possible.
Am I about to enter a nightmare world of ongoing interest payments after closure and customer retention deals..?
Should I ask for the closure request to be put in writing?
How do I best deal with this..?

Cut card in half and send with a cheque and letter requesting closure. then you may get a last statement a month later, pay this and you;re clear.

ideally best not to in case it comes back and bites you in years like missed interest etc - do it in writing and keep copies. then you have proof you requested closure and not to leave it open.

trust me, do it in writing!

Which CC company is it? I closed my Halifax CC over the phone. It still appeared on my online banking but I could only view my balance, nothing else and it now shows at 'Settled' on my Experian report :)

    Hi,

Last couple of times I've closed a CC account I've not even enclosed the cut-up CC in the letter, instead telling the company that I'd destroyed it. I added that the CC company could write to let me know if they wanted to see it.

On neither occasion was I asked for proof of destruction in the confirmation letters that followed.

Yes it can be done but what i'm trying to express is that there are a lot of cases at the moment where someone rung to close a CC account and then forgot about it. Months/years later they got refused credit only to check their credit report and notice a default is registered. It then comes to light the default was placed as a result of interest taking your closed account overdrawn as such, then you get late payment charges etc and before long you have bailiffs chasing you.

Nightmare scenario so it is always best to do these things in writing and demand an acknowledgement which covers you in case of future query.
