PPI should I go to the FOS yet?

I am claiming for PPI insurance on a Loan from Barclays, they have had the 8 weeks so far and have written back advising they need another month.
Is it beneficial to go to the financial ombudsman service now or do I wait and see what response Barclays give me in a months time.
If Barclays were to come back with a sensible offer I think I would be willing to accept it, if they new I had instructed the FOS are they more or less likely to make an offer, ie will they leave it to the FOS to decide or make an offer to stop the FOS getting involved.
If I do instruct the FOS should I tell barclays I have done this but am still willing to consider dealing directly should there response be acceptable or do I not tell Barclays I have instructed the FOS.
Thanks for your ideas/experience in advance

Hi Darren
As you know 8 weeks is ample time, but if your a willing to wait that longer its up to you, but you can if you want to go to the FOS on this, but yes let Barclays know, they may even get back with an offer anyway.
Make sure if they do give an offer that its reasonable, again if your not happy you can still go to the FOS, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

This all depends on how desperate you are if they were to say "yes" and make an offer. FOS are taking about 18 months plus at the moment.I am claiming for PPI insurance on a Loan from Barclays, they have had the 8 weeks so far and have written back advising they need another month.

Also if you do instruct FOS they will request the file most likely straight away from Barclays and then barclays will stop communication with you and will (most of the time) only communicate through FOS.0 -

And once FOS request the file, they still have to wait for Barclays to make a decision because without that the file isn't ready yet.0 -

I had exactly the same problems with Barclays ,seems like standard delaying letters they send out. When I received my letter after 8 weeks saying they still needed more time,I sent the details to the FO.
That was in January and to be fair they have dealt with this far quicker than I expected. An adjudicator found in my favour in April -however Barclays disagreed with this ,this went back to the Financial
Ombdsman who looked at it again and again found in my favour.
I am now waiting for Barclays to contact me to discuss the payout as this decision is binding.
Personally I would take this to the FO but I got fed up waiting-but I have no patience and could really use the money.LOL!
Anyway good luck0
