In Sainsburys yesterday I bought bags of compost for £1.99 25 litre (just smaller than a growbag) bogof which may be useful if you're potting up this Easter!

Also Cadburys wafer chocloate bars 54p reduced from £1 the normal large bar size, so i had to stock up on these too. yum

    Happy shopping and Happy Easter

And unfortunately many don't. Last time I looked our council's compost was more expensive than buying peat compost from a diy store. And somebody told me the other day, don't know how true it is, that they had landfilled 50 tonnes because they couldn't sell it! How bloody stupid is that? I sometimes wonder what we pay our council tax for. Grrrr! This post will end up on the vent board if I go on :-)

Why on earth don't they promote it more I'm sure many gardeners would love some especially free.

Organic peat free grow bags still coming up at 63p instead of £1.28 at Loughborough B&Q but they have run out of the discounted chipped bark mulch.

    Thanks to the OP

Our council doesnt give it away for free, theparks department is 10 metres away from where I live. They charge £1 per bag last tme I got one, not sure of weight but it isnt a huge bag.

Alternatively, many local councils give this stuff away for free (my local council does).

Our council does. You can go along to the recyling centre and help yourself to up to 4 bags per visit. You bring your own bags, so they can be whatever size you like!

Only problem is that the quality is unreliable. Now, at the beginning of the season it's usually quite good, well-rotted stuff. In the middle of the season when turnover is much faster, you sometimes get quite stubborn perennial weeds mixed in (bindweed was a real pain, but we fought and won!!!).

    Hi
Our local council and the neighbouring 2 don't give away compost. Can people post what councils do as it might be worth the drive or maybe near somewhere we go anyway.
    thanks
