Abbey/A&L £100 incentive then upgrading account?

Hello all
After an almighty !!!! up by Smile I want to change my current account and am looking at Abbey/A&L.
Does anyone know if its possible to open the standard Premier Current Account, get the £100 bonus after a few months and then upgrade to the Premier Direct Current Account paying 5% AER?
