Faulty Laptop -for the second time!

About five months ago I purchased a laptop (Advent 5421) from PC Worlds Kidderminster branch. I found after starting it up that there were three defected pixels on the screen that I wasn't happy with so I sent the laptop back to the store for an exchange - my Mum got the same laptop at the same time and had the same problem. The replacements appeared to be ok, but after five months a pixel has appeared to be faulty again- being a red dot on the screen, and its quite distracting at times.

I am really not very happy and feel a pattern coming on with this particular line of laptops from my experience so far.

What would anyone suggest as being the best action to take, to solve this problem? Have I got any rights or a leg to stand on as such?

Don't kick up a fuss, just stand firm, there's no point in getting huffy and start shouting and even swearing! This type of thing makes managers/advisors leading to NOT helping you.

Check the terms and conditions of the warranty, you may not even be entitled to a repair as the industry generally gives details of faulty pixels in their documentation. They are so common that if they threw away every faulty panel the price of manufacturing would go through the roof. The manual often states how many dead or stuck pixels will qualify for repair, with different numbers if the pixels are grouped together. If it is a stuck pixel (on but stuck on one colour) there is software I have seen that can remidy the problem. Stuck pixels often sort themselves out after a while anyway. Sorry can't remember the name of the software.

Your right to a repair has got nothing to do with their warranty. Though I do agree that LCD screens are not perfect and that's just how things are, I think it does depend how much you paid (there are different 'grades' of screen after all) and where the fault is located (4 dead pixels dispersed into corners is a whole different kettle of cod to 4 pixels clustered together stuck on white right in the very centre of the screen). I wonder what standard for screens trading standards would use, or a court if it came to that.

And I agree with the person who said the OP isn't entitled to a refund - it's a bit late to claim the product came like this and reject it, the shop needs to be given a chance to fix or replace I think.

Which I don't think you're entitled to under these circumstances

Yeah, throw your toys out of the pram the moment you don't get your own way. That should make people want to help you.

And be sure to tell them this while you're kicking up a fuss. Knowing that whatever they do, you won't ever be back, is sure to make them want to work harder to make you happy than they would normally to keep you as a customer.
