I confess I don't know a lot about iTunes or the paid-for version of AVG, but I'd hazard a guess that the problem is the AVG firewall.

It should be quite easy to temporarily disable the firewall to test that out. If it works then they just need to add iTunes as an exception in the firewall rules.

If it's not that, you'll probably need to give a more accurate description of the error message.

She has even tried with the firewall disabled and I even got her to turn off the AVG completely and this didn't work either, couldnt gain access to itunes store, and cannot download the music she has bought from Tesco. Will get the exact message displayed. and report back. Thanks for your reply

exact message from tesco is "error connecting to provider"
from itunes is "we could not complete your itunes store request the network connection timed out make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active then try again

I hope you switched ON windows firewall when you removed it?

Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Or you may even consider CROSSLOOP
    (if it will work)

Fair enough. CROSSLOOP might well still be advantageous though. You can manually control her computer with YOUR computer
