Which small car?

I am in the unfortunate position of having to find a cheap small, car quite quickly. My poor little Polo was sitting happily on the drive last week when an unattended vehicle ran into it and wrote it off.

I have around £1000 to spend but could manage more if needed, I have looked at several KA's, all have had quite bad rust.

I realise that for my money, I won't get anything fabulous but was wondering if anyone has any opinions in any way

The cars on my shortlist are Fiesta, KA, Saxo and Clio. I'm not sure about running/repair costs on any of these.

Thanks;)

out of those i would prob have the saxo or clio
i know many will malign the french build quality but i like their small cars
saxo has a bit of a chav image though
problem is small cars are relativly expensive as its the ones most youngsters buy

Actually my question would be the maximum you wish to fork out? Obviously the more you have the new car you can obtain.

I am no fan of these - Fiesta, KA, Saxo and Clio due to I liking reliability.

The citroen saxo is a dreaded car for chavs. It's true. LOL.

It will be a hard question to answer due to the horrible french clio. Many people will vouch for the clio as I have seen more older clio's driving about than the fiesta and KA.

Reliability wise, I would opt for a toyota yaris. But from the above, a renault clio.

My last one didn't have PAS, which I really want this time. I have looked but all the Polos I can afford seem to have big engines or high mileage.

Mine was a 98 1.0L with 73k miles. The insurance company say I can get and equivalent car for £900, but I have looked and there aren't any within travelling distance.

I'm afraid it does, it's just a second car to ferry the kids/dog around and to get work and back etc. I don't fancy running 2 big cars.

Yaris would be good, but a Toyota Starlet is more likely to be within the £1k budget. My GF's had a 98 1.3 one for a few years, all it's had done in that time is the oil topped up, regular services, and the rear shoes replaced and handbrake adjusted. Always gone straight through the MOT so far. She clocked up quite a few miles as well with her job involving quite a bit of travelling.

Other one worthwhile considering is a Micra.
