I see that Innys has suggested a Sansa. I would also suggest a Sansa. I have the Sansa Clip, it plays numerous file types, has an FM radio and also has record feature for both radio and voice. 15 hours on a charge and the 2GB version holds about 1000 tunes. Cost me £28 from Amazon
