help! b gas costing me a fortune!
Hi, i have a three bed house and 2 kids, i cook with elec and just use gas to heat water. I was with scottish power for 5 years pay as you go and i was paying about £30 a week! Considering i only switched the boiler on for about 2 hours a day i thought it was time to switch. I moved to british gas and pay 8.3p pkw/h and was astonished to se that within 24 hours it cost me £3 which may not sound to bad but the boiler was only on for about 2 hours in total. When i called they took me through
some meter readings, the meter had used 2 units which they say amounts to 22 kwh!
If i kept my boiler on moderate all day it would cost me a seariously stagering amount which i cannot afford so the boiler stays off unles i or the children want to have a bath. I timed the boiler on for 30 minutes which cost 68p. When i was with scotish power the meter was changed to metric (m3)
Is it possible they are leaving the imperial/metric conversion factor on? if so how can i tell as im on pre pay?
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum.
You only pay 8.3p for the first units in a 3 month quarter, the rest should be 3.5p to 4p.
2 gas units on a metric meter is approx 22kWh, if it was imperial it would be approx 62kWh.0 -
Thanks for the info Cardew
