Got birds in my roof space somewhere - noise driving me mad.

I had a false ceiling put in last year just 10 inches below old plastered one. there were no holes or anything in walls but their my have been some in the ceiling. Anyway the birds sound really close to me and are near the right hand side of the window to the edge. I have been up to the loft but not in it as I do not have long enough ladders to reach. All seems quiet up there.

Do I leave them? Will they damage my re-wire and insulation? My house is mid terraced and the inside of roof is plastic sheeted (it looks fairly recent before 2002 when I moved in) and the fire walls are still there either side. I can't reach the light switch as I can't see it but there is a long strip light fixed to apex of roof. Thinking of having loft ladders fitted in so I can access loft. How much should I expect to pay?

More likely squirrels or mice IMHO.
  • its defo not mice or squirrels the baby birds have been tweeting non-stop since 4am this morning and they are still at it. Can hear the bird hopping in around and feeding them then flying out again.

Ideally wait till they have grown up and flown away then block up their access for next year, you can't throw baby birds out, you'll kill them :(

    Unless its really annoying obviously,

It is illegal to disturb nesting birds or their nest, you will have to wait until they have fledged and left the nest then you can block the entrances to stop them using the same nest site again.

We've got House Sparrows (I think) in the eaves outside my son's bedroom window. He loves them and listens to them tweeting in the mornings when he wakes up. I can't hear them from my room though, thankfully!!
