And? Contrast number of shares issued. Share price means virtually nothing.

    Compare market cap then:
    Banco Santander: $74,705m (=£49,268M)
    Barclays: £22,974M

Actually, that have similar numbers of shares in issue. So, uh, ner ner ;p

Who cares how many shares each bank has? Or how much their shares value them at?

To the average man on the street, looking for an account at a bank, it's completely irrelevant.

The biggest company in the world can be more likely to go t*ts up than the smallest capitalised. I'm going to bring my own cushion and sit on the fence - I've had problems with both Abbey and Barclays, one was slightly less clear about the process than the other, but all issues with both sorted out pretty quickly

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had a trouble free experience with a bank apart from a charity account with HSBC - I shall wait to see if First Direct pay my incentive payment (been a month since i met the conditions) before I give the same praises to the personal arm!

 I thought in todays technological era banks were supposed to be clearing cheques quicker than in the past. Has anyone got a really stinky letter I can send to the Abbey who today sent out notification that cheques will take an extra day to clear. It will now be 4 working days if paid over the counter and FIVE days if paid in through their machines. Its all very well being paid interest quicker, but I need access to the cash. Help

I can't understand why you need someone else to write you a letter. Write your own letter if you are unhappy with the service you have received. You might actually learn something in the process!
