Odd. But in my GFs case, she's never likely to earn enough to pay it all off, so an extra £50 to the balance each month is irrelevant. I'm surprised that it's lawful for the SLC to add an amount on a regular basis without informing you and trying to chase you for the information. She's never had anything from them other than statements.

All in all, this isn't too much of a concern, though I would be interested in how the SLC justify it. £50 is certainly in the realm of unreasonable charges.

No it isn't! It is very reasonable consider she has borrowed in the region of £15k!

Saying that - I watch my balance go up by £480 a year!!!

I suspect we're talking cross-purposes. Interest at the going rate is reasonable. An additional monthly charge (on top of the interest) of £50 may not be. It's not at all clear why this charge was being applied to chuckley acquaintances.

You'll never hear my complain about interest charges on student loans. They are an expectionally good deal. I'd take another one if I could, any day of the week.

2bh i cant see how it works. so when one of em told me i was bemused. but they said it was coz they never said they were earning over the threshold?! but i thought u declared it on p46? if not, then they assume u havent got a job or are earning else??

then another person told me the same thing... £50 added each month which showed on statement. her case was slightly diff though as she was temping irregular...

unless they automatically charge you the april after graduating if u havent declared?? thats the only think i can think of.
