Ford Escort alarm going off!

Hi hope someone can help me. The alarm on my 94 Escort goes off whenever I open the drivers door or put the key in the ignition. My local Ford garage want £60 to test it to see what problem is. Is there a way I can disable the alarm permanently?

If you had a key supplied with the alarm, this will disable the system. You just need to find the Control Unit under the bonnet if this is the case.

unplug the speaker / fuse

Probably the lock or the switch in the drivers door.

Find the control unit and take the battery out as they are self powered...

In that case, on a car of this age, perhaps that battery is knackered?

possibly so. Sending out duff signals etc.
