Abbey Instant Plus A/C

Options
Hi,

I applied for an Abbey Current Account a few weeks back and had an email a few days back saying that they cannot give me the standard current account at the present time, but are pleased to be able to offer the Abbey Instant Plus current account. This comes with a Visa Electron card.

I have today recieved my internet banking log-on details and card pin.

I was wondering, do Abbey upgrade current accounts after a few months if run well??

Ie: I have my wages go into the instand plus account, after 6 months do they 'pre-approve' for an upgrade to current account/ credit card etc?

Many thanks

  • Abbey dont upgrade them themselves you would need to ask in branch. They will try to open a new account first off either PICR or PODR as this gets the PBA points!

    Hi Simon,

    Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

    Would you mind telling me what the PICR and PODR systems are? Also, in the view of Abbey, what kind of behaviour is 'good' and likely to gain me the best chance of future upgrades etc.

    Many thanks

    Abbey offer upgrades after 3-6 months providing you credit your account with atleast £500-£1000 a month and have a healthy balance each month. Also the usual no charges etc

    They dont credit check you either. If you contact the Telephone Banking and get the right person, without sounding racist, but the Asian customer service will usually give you your behvioural score. I have been told that you need to be over 600 for a Visa Debit card instead of the electron.

    They are very good for upgrades ask sutton11

    Hope this helps

    PICR = preferred in credit
    PODR = preferred overdraft

    not familiar with the current interest rates but

    PICR = higher interest rate paid on credit balances but charged more on overdrawn balances

    PODR = lower interest chargedon overdrawn balances but less paid if in credit

    in other words choose PICR i you are in credit more than overdrawn and PODR vice versa

    all subject to minimum credit of £1000 per month

    if not credited £1000 any month then 'worst' rates apply in each instance

    I'm sorry to contradict you Simon but Abbey do 'upgrades'.

    They can upgrade from basic to instant plus then from instant plus to the Abbey account, be that PODR or PICR.
  • I will clarify sutton. They do not auto upgrade the accounts. It needs to be done in a branch. It is done via sales portal. Partenon does not auto do this, it requires human input to upgrade.
