  • As a final Postscript

The camera arrived Hurrah!!! However in between my last post and now I was told that the item was lost, and got a refund. I've now had to call them to get them to reverse the refund.

The delivery note on the parcel said home delivery next day soe (dated 14th Dec - it arrived on the 20th!) see picture of packing note below . . .

I am too tired and disappointed with amazon to carry on trying to get them to understand how poor the service was. However I would recommend that no-one use amazon's super saver delivery option for anything but books and CDS that come royal mail.

  • It occurs to me that in my opening post I said 'I posted a fairish sized order online to Amazon on Sunday evening, paying for 1st class delivery which guarantees 'next business day delivery'. I omitted the date of ordering, which was December 12th.

Sooo, ordered on the 12th, 1st class, notwithstanding the ensuing farrago of incompetence, it is now the 20th and the order has STILL not arrived. >:(

Malcolm, I'm glad you finally received your camera. ::)

  • Uh, not wishing to be picky, but since when has first class ever meant guaranteed next day delivery? And where does Amazon guarantee that products are in stock and available for dispatch?

As a general rule of thumb, if you want something now then buy it from a shop. If you want something cheap buy it online but remember you don't get it immediately.

    From Amazon's website:

    Estimated delivery times
Destination Delivery Method Estimated Delivery Time
UK First Class 1 business day
    Super Saver Delivery 3-5 days

    ................................................................

OK, it says 'estimated' but when I've ordered 1st class delivery in the past I have received it on the next business day. There are no caveats on the site to say 'this does not apply at Christmas'. If there was one I would consider myself forewarned.

Re 'if you want something now then buy it from a shop', the whole ethos behind using a site like Amazon (or any online shop) is obviously to save money, but also to trust them to provide the option of a fast delivery service if required and follow that through, otherwise nobody would trust them and there would be no reason ever to use them.

When Amazon states that the item of choice is available within 24 hours, that means it is in stock which was the case with all the items in my(still not arrived) order.
