I'm not entirely sure. Lloyds TSB didn't do a credit check when I applied for an overdraft online. I did get a 'Please phone us to complete the application' though, so maybe they do a credit check on the phone...

Overdrafts are not a right!! The bank will credit search you before granting you the overdraft, it would be ridiculous for them not too, after all your borrowing their money. I am with Nationwide, Lloyds and Citibank, I can assure you that both Nationwide and Citibank searched me before granting Credit. I cannot speak for Lloyds, as the overdraft was available when I opened the account, so I didn't have to make a separate application. I was advized by Lloyds that the application for the current account generates what products are available, and dependent on score you either get things, or you don't. Regular money going into your account may help, but it won't change your credit score, if you have no adverse credit, then I am sure you will favor well for gaining your overdraft, but remember, they are payable on demand, so as fast as it goes on, it can come off even faster!!
