Log Cabin Houses....anyone any experience??

Been thinking about buying a house for a few months now and by September will have saved enough for a good deposit and to cover the other costs. The max value property I could afford is £125,000.

But, a friend of mine happend to go to a local company that supplies and installes log cabbins as homes. He went to see the show house and said it was amazing, with brilliant insullation and the construction was solid. The costs were between £30,000 and £50,000 installed. My parents have land near by which would be available to me (pending planning permmision).

Has anybody lived, stayed or considerd one or has anybody had any experience / problems at all with them?

Thanks!

i dont know much, but due to the current house prices we are limited to what we can buy so looked into log cabins which seem excellent value for money.

with the deposit we have saved for a house we could have purchased one outright, the only problem is the land prices!

my parents said if they had suitable land on their property we could have had it there, but land around these parts is expensive more than what the log cabin installed would cost.

if you have the land and planning available,go for it.

but i have heard that getting insurance on these is very hard, but i maybe wrong?

Well I think i can have the land for next to nothing as my parents own it and have no intentions of doing anything really with it (they have some chickens on it now!!).

At the moment I cant see any major problems but im scared im missing something!! does anybody know anyone who has lived in one?

Depending on where its located but connecting gas, electric, sewars, phone lines etc can be very expensive, have a look at the install costs for mobile homes - About £25k I think.
