If you don't have a Windows install disk, you may need to use the Super Grub Boot Disk to repair the MBR. It's not particularly easy to use, but when you get to know it, it works well in my experience.
Managed to burn this to a CD.
It was unable to fix anything though, and most of the options said the file was not found.

Out of interest, do you still have the serial number for your previous XP installation?
There is nothing at all wrong with downloading an ISO image of the Windows XP installation CD - the problems start when you use counterfeit serial numbers.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

It was a counterfeit version (already on when I got given the PC). The serial number was on the disc which I've lost.The View Belongs To Everyone0 -
