Just got keys
Hi just got keys to new house. Plan is to decorate first and move in within 2 months. My question is what to do about gas / electricity, it must already be connected from the previous owners but need a bit of advice on what to do? I am not sure how the previous owners paid there bill (monthly DD) or wether it was dual fuel or separate gas / electric provider as I am still waiting for this information from my solicitor.
I have been to the property today and there appears to be a Economy 7 digital metre with (Normal / Low Rate reading) not had much experience of using this type of system.
The boiler is fairly old and is currently connected to a time switch.
Will the Economy 7 metre having anything to with the central heating or Hot Water?
ANy help will be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi gr...the moment you start using the gas and electric you will be deemed a customer of the existing utilities and they need to be informed.
Take readings of gas electric and water and keep weekly records. Then tally it with the bills as they come in.
Economy 7 usually means you have storage heaters and if not it will be difficult to warrant the higher daytime charges by using appliances in the seven cheap hours. You will then need to get it changed to a normal meter.
A NEW house should be well insulated but extra in the loft will be worthwhile, and the national average for electric is 3300kwh's and for gas is round about 20,000.
A comparison site will give you an idea of costs. Put variations of the national average into Energhelpline (link at the top of this board),should give you high low and middling costs.
Good luck with your new house, a big event.0
