Yes, if its your first time try and get to St Annes, much nicer then Blackpoool, and have a walk round Fairhaven Lake.

Well, we had our trip to Blackpool last week and had a super time, assisted by the replies from MSE members on this thread.

As suggested we stayed in the quieter North Shore, the Bobins Guest house. Nice one, Islandman. Roy and Sheila were very friendly and hospitable. We are thinking of returning to blackpool in a couple of years and would definitely stay there.

JackieO we followed 2 suggestions of yours. Thanks. Bought tram passes, actually for 3 days at £13.50 each. Also the carvery in the Tramway was very impressive - the best meal we had during the break.

Thanks for your post, too, colmil. We didnt get to St. Annes and Lytham this time. Will try there again.

are excellent - North Shore newsly done up - all laminates and leather sofas, the couple who run it even cleaned our windows on our car before we came home - Blackpool being such a filthy place.
Be warned it is very tacky and the Pleasure Beach is very expensive - oh and couldn't find anywhere decent to eat out! Lucky that these apartments have excellent kitchens.

We have been to Blackpool many times, and I agree that you should avoid the central area for accommodation. It is very noisy and many of the places are squalid dives.

On our last few visits we have stayed at the Kimberley Guest House in Gynn Avenue. The proprietors are friendly, accommodating and keep a clean house. You also get a good breakfast - vital in Blackpool of course!

I've just come back from a weekend in Blackpool, I searched this site for ideas of where to stay and plumped for the one recommended above. It was spot on, very clean and friendly no stags or hens and a fabulous breakfast that meant I didn't eat again till 10pm (save for an ice-cream). Nice one.
  • Just a help out

I recently stayed in a hotel called The Jesmond Dene hotel, it is located in the central part of blackpool up st chads road. It is a lovely little hotel costs about £25 a night which was a great bargin for me and my boyfriend who were only there for the weekend. a week costs around about £119. Anywho it was really clean and tidy , has a ensuite bathroom. It has a little bar down stairs and a new part is the computer room with free internet access! the hosts Ron and Diane lovely people who cant do enough for you!

so yes lovely little hotel here is a website to book or just to have a look!

Don't rely on trams to get back to your accommodation at night. Its virtually impossible to get on a tram in illuminations season after 9.30pm. We have been caught like this before and left with a very long walk with small child from the pleasure beach to the North Shore.

Blackpool Tower is a full day's entertainment, so go early! Inside the tower is an all you can eat Pizza restaurant which is very reasonable at around £5 per head and highly recommended :) Try not to head for the tower on a windy day because you wont be able to travel to the top.

Same goes for the pleasure beach, the big one coaster closes if its especially windy.

Go to the Zoo! Blackpool zoo is wonderful and another full day of entertainment.

Pleasure beach, Zoo and Tower take Tesco deal tokens :D

    Have fun!

I've done this three times, always staying at the Gables Balmoral Hotel, 01253 345432. It matches all the criteria you specified. It's in a side street alongside the Pleasure Beach, with - amazingly - free parking in the street overnight. If you have two nights there, you can walk to one end of the illuminations and back one night, and walk to the other end the next night, so you do indeed cover it all. For an illuminations weekend break (b&b) it's cheap; there's even a welcome snack on your first night.
