in Cutting tax
Hi.
I recieved a bonus this month at work and from what i can figure out i've been over taxed on it. After speaking to my HR department they've assured me it's correct however i still dont think its right.
So can anyone here help me?
my tax code is 396L
My gross pay this month is £8470 - tax paid £2539
NI:351 this month - the NI i believe is correct.
My total gross pay this tax year is £11,451 - total tax paid = £3069.
I think that as i'm paid via PAYE the systems messed up and thinks that this months pay is going to be what i will recieve every month (if only).
Thank you for your help.

this month you have paid some tax at 40%
but this will self correct over the next couple of months i.e. you will pay less tax than normal until it is correct.0 -

No it's not messed up - that's what it's designed to do. As Clapton says, you'll get the excess back over the next month or so.0 -
This happens every christmas when my husband gets his bonus,he just claims it back after the end of the tax year in April.0

If this is so and there are no 'special circumstances' then your husband's payroll has serious problems.
A bonus at anytime of the year should always be sorted out by the end of the tax year automatically by the payroll system and there should be no reason to reclaim anything from the tax man. Maybe your husband contributes to a personal pension or some such?0 -

yes, it does, but the point is that the automatically payroll will correct itself over time0
