Credit card dispute refunded then reclaimed

Hi all.

I am after some advice. I recently went to purchase a car and it resulted in a non refunded deposit which I paid through my Nationwide Gold Visa card. I put forward an dispute in March that was then investigated. The following month the £500 deposit was refunded.

Naturally I was unsure if it had just been refunded as a as good will while investigating so I contacted the Nationwide.
I was clearly told that my reclaim had been sucessful and that the money was mine. I was told that the money would not be taken back.
I then used the money to purchase another car.

Earlier this week I received a letter saying the car merchant had challenged the claim and the Nationwide would now be reclaiming the refund on my next bill.
This contradicts what I was told over the phone and now I am worried that I can not repay this money next month and will be charged interest on it.

Please can anyone advise on my rights.

Thanks all

They have a right to debit the card back. You have the right to start again and complain and take the case to the Ombudsman.

If the Ombudsman rules against you then you could sue for the return of the money.

A deposit is just that. If the garage didn't break the contract (did they?) then you should lose the money. Someone at Nationwide has waved your claim through without watiing to here from the garage.

I'm siding with the garage. If you must leave a deposit make it something you're willing to lose.

what reason had they given for the repres they should have provided you with a copy of the documents that the garages sent to them?? its all a process that they can represent the claim with evidence stating why it is a valid charge. With Visa they can only do one CB but may be worth going down the route of consumer rights rather than cc regulations try giving trading standards a ring for more info.

Try giving Nationwide a ring in the saying your going to dispute it further without them, but as you were given incorrect information initially ask them to freeze the transaction in the meantime (no interest or need for payment on it) it is possible for them to do it so no harm in asking.

    Good luck :o
