So Tuesday/Wednesday my mother put money in my account no problem, yesterday morning she put more money in and today I went to check and it's not there. My mum checked the slip and the teller used the wrong sort code :mad::mad::mad:. What happens now? This money is part of my deposit/rent which needs to be paid ASAP.

Go back to the branch and talk to the manager or phone up and ask to speak to a manager - if you are not satisfied start the complaints procedure0

my mum is phoning up now to a 0845 number and is going into the bank tomorrow.0

Not much point phoning them up because they won't be able to do anything until they see the receipt etc.0

yeah thats what I was thinking0

Seeing the receipt won't help them in the slightest at this stage, as the receipt will only say what they've got on their system. You can give them any details from the receipt for them to identify the transaction.
Definitely speak to them on the phone to sort this out. Unfortunately it could take a little while, as the funds will have gone into an account that actually exists, so they may have to get the go-ahead from that account holder before they can move them back into your account.
Best of luck with sorting it out0 -
The cashier should have checked the name in the account ... :-\ Your mum probably gave your name and details, it's the cashier's fault for not double checking, and your mum's fault for not double checking either! xD Anyway, you will probably have your money back. Go to the bank asap, explain the error, explain that this was for rent and not having the funds might incur in charges or problems for you.
Sometimes when you put the wrong details in the system, the computer still gives you the chance to pay, as it can be a new account just opened. When that's the case, no name appears on screen, but then the following working day (or withing some days) the bank will have the money back into their "cash errors" account, so they know this amount was paid by mistake into an inexisting account. If that is the case, it's easy to claim.
I would recommend you to ask for a pay-in book, or two. If your mum makes payments quite often into your account, she can keep one of these pay-in books and use it to pay. There's no possible error with those, as no one types the details and the machine reads them automatically. Always ask for receipt, and if you can always ask for a narrative to be put with the transaction "rent", "gift from mum", "From Mrs Jane Smith", "to pay credit card", whatever. This extra info not only will appear in your statements and will help you to see where the money comes and where it goes, but it is also recorded in the system, and if something goes wrong, you have more details to give, or something else to support that the payment was made by you or any other person.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

The receipt would help because how would the bank know where the money was meant to go? The person went into the branch to deposit money.... the account was wrong. How do they know who it was meant to go to?
Its like me radomly phoning up saying 'I deposited £100 but the cashier put it in the wrong account so I want it in my account now'. How would they know I was being serious or not?0 -

The cashier will have printed a receipt showing where the money actually went, not where it was meant to go. The only details that the bank will have in their system (and so hence printed on the receipt) will be of the account that the money went in to.0 -

Yeh so how would the receipt not help....? They need the receipt to prove that the woman isn't lying.....
This woman wants the money in her account but it hasn't gone into hers. She needs the receipt to go into branch, say this is where its gone, this is where it was meant to.
If there was someone infront of me and I had amazing eyesight I could read the receipt, phone up, pretend to be the person infront of me and say the money went into the wrong account can I change itthat would just be silllllly lol
